If it is psychological as you say it is, then it is still in the genetics of the person otherwise the laws of nature would make it so no male or female will be sexually attracted to the same sex.
Going by that logic racist people would have racist genes, which is highly unlikely. And nature has made it that way, but nature does not orchestrate our phychological developments. Otherwise we would still be acting like hunters and cavemen, and we obviously don't (most of us).
Take hermaphodites for example, they are born with both body genetilia, correct? If that's the case that is a sexual gene mutation. Doctors still now and back then usually make or made the decision to whether or not the hermaphodite will be a male or female. Hence, most gay men and gay woman have the same mannerisms and voice intonation. One higher pitched and one lower pitched.
That's just a case of hormones. They got too much of both types, which makes them that what they are. Usually, if I'm not mistaken, they are female but have too much testosorone. Which leads to an uncommon growth in the clitoris, which on turn makes it look like a ''penis.''
That may be one of the reasons why an influx of gay people happened during the 1960's due to limited knowledge. Proving my point that, to a certain extent, it is genetic.

During that time there was an influx of feminists, which is why there was an increase in lesbian people. On the other side there were men who got fed up with women... (Just an assumption)
