Can beauty be found in death?

Postby GoodGirlsGetGutted » Nov 11th, '09, 11:10

This is an excerpt from an amazon.com review that I wrote for a gothic metal album ("October Rust" by Type O Negative), describing the beauty that I find in death in general.

-Few aromas accommodate man's olfactory nerve quite as pleasantly as that of Fall. The scent of Autumn may be as beautiful a scent as any in nature. But consider this: what you're actually smelling is death. Autumn, from Latin autumnus, is often named Fall in North America because it describes precisely what leaves on trees do unto Earth. Terestrial mortification. Natural, ordained death. We pay for this smell of death- in the form of candles, of hand soaps, of car fresheners. and appreciatively welcome the real thing when the season comes. The point is- that beauty can indeed be found in death.-

Do you agree? Do you have your own philosophy about the subject?

Hmmmmm. Have you ever played Planescape:Torment? I guess that's where I felt my truest appreciation for what death can offer, coz the protaganist couldnt die; and he was amnesiac and all he seeked was a true release.

That's a very obscure game. I've never played it.
The game that gave me the most appreciation for the line between life and its counterpart is Metal Gear Solid 4. The character has the opposite problem. He not only must die, he must die by his own hand to save the lives of countless others. Even though he knows the whole time he must kill himself at the end of his mission, he fights on, without getting so much of a hint of gratitude from just about everyone alive soley because of his efforts. That courage, whilst facing inevitable death all along, brings tears to my eyes to think about.

Speaking of tears, what is your avatar?
Is that from a movie?
It looks familiar but I can't place it.

lol @ beauty being found in the death of his career. I agree. But, to be honest, I also saw him in a horror movie about catatonic kids and stuff. It was a shockingly poor film and I remember he wasnt on the audio commentary of the dvd and the other minor stars were having a go at him on the commentary like "he had more important stuff to do" and "he acted in Dawson Creek" *laugh*

Death doesn't discriminate.
My philosophy is: the harder you have to look for beauty in something, the more beautiful it is when found.
Think about that

My topic is death, not rotting flesh.

Rotting flesh is beautiful because it symbolizes that the body is a useless vacuole, while the spirit and memory of a person lives on.

That's how. You can't just look on the surface.

I guess philosophy is wasted on some people

Either say something intelligent and profound or say nothing

I'm trying to discuss philosophy, not rotting fucking flesh
Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Beauty can be found in death if you realize that the spirit of the person who is dead lives on greater then they would have lived if they were alive. This goes for most of the most renowned geniuses of all time, they were never truly appreciated until after they died, and that is why death can be beautiful. :y:
LMFAO@ Brittney, bitch looking worse than a chupacabra mixed with a broken down coyote. You're disgusting ugly, so ugly in fact, my brain simultaneously exploded while processing how bitterly grotesque you look. I would much rather stick ice picks into the walls of my cranium, then stick my dick into your quagmire of a clitoris. You're what would happen if a sperm whale mated with a Godzilla fish..
