Your mood and the songs you listen to...

Postby Emadyville » Dec 1st, '09, 22:08

Does mood affect what you listen to? I mean, I know that most people would listen to angry songs when angry, love songs when they're in love, etc.

But are there certain types of songs you can listen to only when you're in the mood?
And also, does it affect how you perceive the song?

For instance, I hate love songs for the most part. Whenever I have feelings for a girl songs like that don't change in my mind, I don't wanna hear them because it's the mood I'm in. While at the same time, the few love songs I like or enjoy I can listen to whenever, whether liking a girl or hating a girl.

This was just something interesting I thought might strike a good debate, more so contradictory thoughts on the subject, but I felt this was the best place to post this.

To be honest, I think mood does not affect the music I listen to. If I'm pissed off or if I'm feeling lovey-dovey I will still listen to the same music. Maybe unconsciously I do choose certain music because of my mood. What I mean is, I don't exactly put on LL Cool J's "I Need Love" or Eminem's "Kim" when I'm in a certain mood. So no, I don't think that I listen to some music when I'm in a mood.

Whenever I'm depressed/down I tend to listen to Joe Budden's Mood Muzik more often than I normally do.

I listen to all genres, but when I'm angry I put music with hard aggressive beats. Rap or rock mostly. If I'm feeling mellow & chilled out I usually listen to anything by Sade or Prince :y: .

When im happy, I put up hard, agressive music, just to boost my energy.
When im down, I put up the slow and easy music. Sometimes I tend to listen to a lot of soul music then, it relaxes me and motivates me to think things over.
When im agressive or angry, I need some easy music to calm down.
Whem im in a average mood I listen to everything I feel like listening to.

I really don't get into a mood, then listen to music proportional to that emotion.

I much rather prefer to let the music sway my mood.

I never really liked the song black Dahlia until I had problems with my girl. Now every time I listen to it I get really sad but I can connect with it.

So yeah I definitely think mood has an effect on what type of music I listen to. When I'm upset I go for more metal and when I'm happy/pumped up I go for more rap.

Yes. I'm sad now so I listen to Rihanna's Cry song.

Or if I'm angry, I listen to Screamo songs.

But nothing beats Lose yourself cuz I listen to it anytime.

Same here bro, exactly the same. I like a very very few love songs, just not my type of shit. And I'd say mood definitely affects how you perceive songs, cause when I'm really sad, a sad song would seem like the best song in the world for me until I'm done being sad, and then listen to the song and it's different, but still dope.

And yep there is songs that you can listen to whenever no matter the mood. For me, its like that for like 70 or more percentage of dope Hip Hop songs. It's really only the special songs that require you to fully enjoy them if your in the right mood, like emotional type tracks. Emotional tracks = moody. But sometimes I can listen to an emotional track whenever, just depends how dope the song is.

i find that my mood depends more on the song that is playing at that time...
its weird.. like if a certain song is playing during a bad experience, every time that song comes on, even if its months later.. i get that same anxiety or stressed feeling.. its like it subconsciously reminds me of that shitty moment.
same goes for good experiences though...
