Don't set yourself up for a rocky ride here, if you've been here for a year you'd know how to act on a forum right? Just because there isn't proof that he exists, doesn't mean there won't be in the future. I don't believe in God myself, but i like the idea of it, and respect the people that believe in God.
Um excuse me, I wouldn't say it's 'opinion' that there's no god. The claim has been persistent for thousands of years and not one shred of evidence has appeared. It's also impossible by its very nature. So I'd say that's as close to definitive as we get with anything.
Would you say it's 'opinion' that human beings can't fly? If somebody claimed that they could fly to you but they refused to show you and had no evidence of it... I assume you wouldn't believe them. You'd also consider it impossible by its very nature so naturally say they can't fly. Would you then say it's their 'opinion' that they can fly, it's 50/50, you 'respect' them for making the claim but not proving it.
Society has completely bought into this nonsense that religion deserves respect. Why? If you like Eminem and hate pop music, do you 'respect' somebody who loves Britney Spears or rather... Tip-toe around it and pay them exaggerated respect for their taste? No, with anything else people debate each other and are much more offensive than anyone ever is with religion.
The proposal of a god doesn't deserve anymore respect than any other unprovable, impossible claim. You can give it so if you like but it's not arrogant to treat ridiculous claims as ridiculous. That's what they are. It's arrogant to make the claims, not prove them, say you don't need to prove them but just expect everyone else so accept and respect them. THAT is arrogant. Religion is the thing that's been proposing itself as fact for centuries. Brainwashing innocent children.
I'm also glad it's not true and can't understand why you like the idea of it. Really? Idea of which god exactly. The god of the bible? A violent, jealous, petty, vindictive dictator who's core and obsessive request is that you believe in him. This god is allmighty, allpowerful and eternally intelligent yet he has a superiority-complex and such self-esteem issues that his one true worry is you not thinking he exists.
This god can also read your every thought and punishes you for thinking thinks. Thought crime. You like the idea of a powerful dictator watching your every waking breath, 24/7 and punishing you for THOUGHTS. You're also born into sin you had no hand to, can't escape and must apologize for. You have to spend your life grovelling and apologizing to this god for nothings, a god you have no reason to think is there. A god who could end all this debate with one showing of proof yet continues to let wars be fought in his name and people endlessly row and squabble over different forms of belief.
Not only that, the fun only begins when you die. As, if you didn't spend your entire life worshipping him, accepting yourself as nothing more than a worthless puppet under his control that must pray and ask its master for things which never come, he will send you to burn forever. All eternity.
Well excuse me if I say I DON'T like this idea and I do not respect people who believe it or wish it true. So I'm glad it's not. Just because you can't 'disprove' something doesn't make it likely. You only can't disprove god because the idea itself places itself outside of logic as we know it. That doesn't mean it's likely or you should seriously consider it. We all say in practice that humans can't rise from the dead. You can actually call impossible things impossible and not be arrogant. It's arrogant to say you don't need to prove them.
